10 Questions with Deb McNaughton.
How long have you been a full-time artist for?
This year was supposed to be my first ‘official’ year as a full-time artist but as a result of Covid-19, it’s been a juggling act between mum, artist and teacher. Maybe NEXT year will be my time to shine?
What is your proudest achievement as an artist?
Ooooh this is a pretty big question as I’ve been fortunate enough to have LOTS. Being commissioned to paint the ‘rainbow of hope’ mural for the city of Kingston was pretty special, as was having my photo on the front cover of Peppermint magazine.
What is your number one tip you can give to aspiring artists?
Jump in and enjoy the ride. Say YES and figure the rest out later.
If you weren’t an artist, what would you be?
A primary school teacher. That was my profession before this exciting opportunity came into play.
Which artists inspire you or you look up to?
HEAPS! I learnt a lot from Kirsten Jackson at her artists in business workshop. I also adore the work of Alex Proba and Alex Brewer – both mural artists.
